John J. Comitale, Jr "Gump", age 73, of Bensalem, formerly of Philadelphia, passed away at home with his wife by his side. He was a loving and caring man who lived life to the fullest. John was a proud veteran who served two years of active duty with the United States Army. He was a courageous firefighter for the Philadelphia Fire Department for over 30 years. He spent most of his career in North Philadelphia at Engine 27 and after suffering a heart attack moved up to the northeast to Engine 36 where he served until 2008.\nJohn was well known for his skills as a baseball and football player. He was known throughout the Philadelphia Fire Department as a member of the Blue Flame Football Club. He also played softball for Hesson's Bar. He was a talented athlete and loved playing ball for both the Fire Department and Hesson's Bar.\nHe is the cherished husband of Patricia (nee Somers). Beloved father of Shannon, Kenneth, Sarah (Oliver), Anne and Lori. Loving brother of Harriet "Bunny" (Bruce) Cowgill, Mary (Barry) Hatfield, the late Diane (Joe) Venziale and the late Louis (the late Marie) Comitale. He is also survived by his granddaughter Lena, his 4 Sisters-in-law, Joanne, Maryanne, Theresa and Bernadette, 2 Brothers-in-law, Jack and Mike and many nieces and nephews and long time friends.\nRelatives, friends, members of the Philadelphia Fire Department Local 22 and the Wm. D. Oxley American Legion Post 133 are invited to his viewing and funeral Tuesday, December 28, 2021 from 9:00 AM - 10:45 AM at St. Dominic Church, 8504 Frankford Avenue.
