Horne, Mary Joan (nee Walz) Feb. 28, 2018. Age 80.

Joan was born on April 18, 1937 in Philadelphia, PA, as the youngest of five children born to Lawrence and Alice Walz. Dear sister of Alice, Betty and the late Mildred and Lawrence. Her children remember her as a loving, strong, generous, and humorous woman who loved her eight children unconditionally - Frank (Suzanne), Donna, Constance (Lawrence) Tracey, Gregory (Susan), Steven, Nick, Joann (Joseph) Iannuzzi, and Vincent. She is survived by her 12 devoted grandchildren (Jennifer, Eric, Matthew, Linda, Neal, Amanda, Emily, Gregory, Steven, Alaina, Joseph, and Samuel) and 3 cherished great-grandchildren (Owen, Ethan, and Alexis).

Before she got married and had her children she attended grade school at Maternity BVM and high school at St. Bonnie's Business School. She had various jobs while raising her children. Her first job was as a server at Dutch's Luncheonette in Kensington. Her education at St. Bonnie's prepared her to work as a secretary in the textile mills and as a Kelly Girl. She also worked in several banks, the IRS, Whitman's, as a switchboard operator, and as a toy deomonstrator for C & B Toys.

She enjoyed going to the casinos and socializing with the AZ Group.

She was devoted to her faith as a Catholic and loved attending Mass and reading the Daily Word. She was the kind of person who wanted to give back and help others; she was generous with her time and wanted to help however she could.

Her family remembers her as a woman who loved to laugh, who loved God, and who always encouraged them to see the good in people even when it was difficult to do so.

Relatives and friends are invited to offer condolences to her family Tuesday 9 to 10 AM at St. Dominic Church, 8504 Frankford Avenue. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 AM. Inurnment will take place at Hole Sepulchre Cemetery.
