GERBA, Josephine Elizabeth (nee Gaydos), age 89, of Philadelphia, passed away on April 8, 2018 (Divine Mercy Sunday).  She was predeceased by her Beloved Husband of 66 years, Steven Jacob Gerba.  Loving Daughter of the late John and Mary Gaydos.  Loving Mother of Steven J. Gerba.  Favorite Sister of Mary Golden, Helena Gaydos, Annarose Payne, Cyril (Kate) and John (Amy) Gaydos.  Loving Aunt to numerous Nieces and Nephews, who all loved her dearly and recognized her kind concern.  Loving Aunt- In-Law to Maryann Washco, Alice (Walter) Strine, and Alec (Helen) Washco.  And first Cousin Catherine (Gajdos) Litwinowicz

Graduate of John Bartram High School where she was an exceptional high achiever student.  She was elected Miss Liberty during WWII Bond Drive. Josephine began her career with the Bell Telephone Company, Monaco & Gallagher Law Office, then went on to work as an Assistant Technician in Radiology at Holy Redeemer Hospital and then became a Hospice Home Healthcare Aide for 10 years with Holy Redeemer.  She was the Secretary-Treasurer of the First Catholic Slovak Union, Jednota Branch 55, for many years.

Josephine was an amazing person who always and everywhere would put her family and others’ needs above her own, and was always ready to accommodate and help in any way that she could.  She was everyone’s “Miss Congeniality.”

Relatives and friends are invited to her Viewing Saturday, 9 to 10:30 A.M., at T.J. Fluehr Funeral Home, 11010 Knights Road.  Funeral Mass 11 A.M., at Our Lady of Calvary Church, 11024 Knights Road, Phila., PA 19154.  Internment at Holy Cross Cemetery, Yeadon, PA.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wesley Benevolent Fund, 8401 Roosevelt Blvd., Philadelphia, PA 19152.

Please Note that there will be a Memorial Service for Josephine on Wednesday, April 18, 2018, at 10:30 A.M. in Wesley Hall at Wesley Enhanced Living.

We think Josephine would like us to acknowledge her other cousins, most of whom she was fond of: especially her Kovach cousins:  Joe, Maryann, Bernadette, Joann, Veronica Wolf and her son Tom Wolf and Joe Trojcak.  And the Jencik, Kavchak, and Jursa Cousins, and many other close relatives in Slovakia.
